Eulogy for Winamp
I’m really sorry to see Winamp go. It was great while it lasted, but I’m glad I was intoduced to Foobar2000 before this unfortunate turn of events. Otherwise I would be very bummed instead of just sad out of respect for a good software. Well here is my Eulogy for Winamp…
Winamp was a great piece of software. Written by the devoted music fans at Nullsoft, they made a great software because they cared. They wanted to make a software that would actually be good. Winamp spread like wildfire throughout the society of computer literates, and music fans. It was WAY better than Media Player. And it was famous for its amazing visualizations. (they have yet to be topped I love MilkDrop)! In fact I still use MilkDrop for Foobar2000, and that shows how good this was. Winamp, with its awesome skins and very powerful functionality, it was great. AOL ATE IT!!! I can’t stand AOL (I will write a scathing critique of AOL later). It seems to absorb things in an attempt to stay alive, then it destroys them. Check out the link in Aaron’s last post, and you will see that AOL mismanaged Nullsoft. They should have been given full reign to do whatever they thought necessary, but they didn’t. I blame AOL as the cause of the downfall of the great Winamp. Winamp5 was really good, and its only fault was its CPU intensiveness. May it rest in peace.
Although it is not my player of choice, I pause in a moment of respect for a great software and for the great people who made it.
HERE’S TO WINAMP AND ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE OF THE LATE NULLSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*sniffle*
I will miss you Winamp. *tosses flowers on Nullsoft’s grave* At least we may be comforted that this may precede the downfall of AOL. I think I’m more qualified to write a scathing critique than you, Allyn ;).
